Large Metal Barn Signs, Sized For A Barn Wall

Most signs sold as barn signs are not barn sized. They are 24 inches wide and they vanish on the side of a building. This one starts at 42 inches and goes to 96, which is the width you need before a name reads from a driveway or a road.

The sign carries your family name, and your established year underneath if you want it. That is what turns a building into your building.

What Size Barn Sign Do You Need?

The usual mistake is going too small. A rough guide: for a standard barn gable or a shop front, 72 to 96 inches reads properly from the road. For a gate, a fence line or a garage, 48 to 60 inches is usually right. Under a porch or inside a shop, 42 to 48 inches.

Take a tape measure to the actual wall and mark the width out before you order. Our size guide shows every size against a wall.

Metal, Canvas Or Acrylic

Metal is the outdoor one. 3mm aluminum composite, rigid and weather resistant, printed with UV resistant ink. This is what goes on a barn, a gate, a fence or a shop front. It ships with stand offs, four to six on most sizes and eight on the biggest.

Canvas and acrylic are indoor only. Pick these if the sign is going in a tack room, an office, a bar or an entryway. Neither one will survive weather.

Questions About Our Metal Farm And Barn Signs

Will it fade in the sun?

The ink is UV resistant and the panel is aluminum composite, which is the same material used for commercial outdoor signage. It will not rot, crack or warp the way a wood sign does, and it is not going to rust.

How does it mount on a barn?

Metal signs ship with stand offs, which hold the sign slightly off the wall and give it a shadow line. They go into wood siding, metal siding or masonry with the right fastener for your wall. Four to six on most sizes, eight on the largest. Tell us what you are mounting to and we will tell you what you need.

Can I put my established year on it?

Yes, and most people do. Family name on top, established year underneath is the common layout. If your farm has been in the family since 1921, that is the detail people notice.

Is this real wood or real rusted metal?

No. The weathered look is printed onto a flat aluminum panel, which is the point. You get the look of a hundred year old board with none of the rot, the weight or the maintenance.

How big can you actually go?

96 inches is the largest single panel on this listing. We can go bigger than that on a custom order, but past 96 by 48 inches a sign is produced in sections, and we will tell you the section count before you commit to anything.

Does this work as a business sign?

Yes, and a lot of them go that way. Farm stands, feed stores, shops, stables and workshops all use the same sign with a business name in place of a family name. Same material, same sizes.

Do I see it before it is printed?

Yes. Personalized orders get a proof to approve first. Nothing prints until you have looked at the spelling of your own name and told us it is right.
