The whole piece is built on a soft weathered white plank background with the grain and the wear printed into it. Deep red lettering sits over the top in an ornate hand lettered script, and fine green filigree scrolls into all four corners. You give us two things and we set them into the design. Your family surname runs across the bottom, following the curve under the artwork. Your established year sits on the right, balanced against EST. on the left. That year can be the one you married, the one you bought the house, or the one the first of you turned up in town. It is your call and nobody else needs it explained.

Shorter names sit large and open. Longer names are set a little tighter so the whole name stays on one line and stays readable from across a room. Send us the spelling exactly as you want it printed, capitals and all, and we follow it.

At the center of the design there is a gathered spray of white blooms, red berries, winter greenery and pale blue green foliage. Tucked into the middle of it is a starfish with a scatter of pearls. Honest About the Materials

The weathered plank background is printed artwork, not real wood. There are no boards, no grooves and nothing to warp, split or need refinishing. What you get is the look of an old painted plank sign with none of the upkeep that real timber asks for.

The same goes for the metal version. Our signs are made of aluminum. There is no embossing, raised lettering, or engraved lettering on our signs. They are graphically printed to look as if they have those effects.

Is it real wood?

No. The plank background is printed. Tailor Made Rooms prints the weathered white wood look onto canvas or onto 3mm aluminum composite, so you get the character of an old painted sign without the warping and refinishing.

What size should I order?

Measure whatever it will hang above and aim for roughly two thirds of that width in artwork. Over a standard console or mantel that usually lands at 30x15 or 36x18 inches. For a narrow entry wall or a powder room, 16x8 or 20x10 inches is plenty. Cut the size out of painters tape and stick it on the wall first, it costs nothing and it settles the question.
