Description

Christmas Canvas Wall Art - Mountain Red Barn in the Snow

A red barn sitting low at the foot of misty blue mountains, with a still pond in front of it holding the reflection of a pink dawn sky. Snow on the roof, snow across the field, tall pines standing dark against the haze. The barn's red is the only warm colour in the whole painting, which is exactly why your eye goes straight to it and stays there.

Christmas Decor For People Who Do Not Want Red And Green

Most Christmas wall art announces itself. This one does not. The palette is blue grey, soft white and pale lavender, with a single band of barn red and a blush of sunrise along the mountains. Hang it in November and it reads as Christmas because of the snow and the pines. Leave it up in February and it simply reads as winter, which is why plenty of our customers never take it down.

That restraint is what makes it work in a room that is already busy. Against a lit garland, a wreath and a tree, bright art competes. This one sits behind all of it and gives the eye somewhere quiet to land.

✔ Designed in Michigan, made to order in North America

Choosing Your Size

Measure the furniture or the wall space it will hang above and aim for roughly two thirds of that width in artwork. Above a sofa, a mantel or a sideboard that usually lands at 24x36 or 32x48 inches. For an entry, a hallway, a study or a bedside wall, 16x24 or 20x30 inches is the comfortable middle. The 8x12 and 12x18 suit a shelf lean, a stair gallery wall or the narrow stretch beside a door.

This is a wide landscape scene, so it rewards a size with room to breathe. The mountains and the pond need width to read properly, and below 16x24 the far peaks start to lose their detail. Hang it at eye level, centered 57 to 60 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 10 inches between the top of any furniture and the bottom of the canvas.

Questions We Get Asked

Is this a painting or a photograph?

A painting. It was digitally designed in a soft painterly style, with visible brushwork in the snow and the sky, and then printed to order on canvas. That is what separates it from our photographed barn pieces, which are a different look entirely.

How is this different from your other red barn canvases?

This is the mountain one, and the only painted one. The barn sits small in a wide valley with peaks behind it and a pond in front. Our other red barn pieces are photographs of a barn among bare trees on flat ground, shot close. Different scene, different medium, different mood.

Is it too wintry to leave up after Christmas?

There is no tree, no lettering, no gift and nothing red and green in it. It is a winter landscape that happens to suit Christmas, so it carries January and February comfortably. Many customers hang it in November and take it down when the snow does.

Which depth should we choose, 0.75 or 1.25 inch?

The 0.75 inch profile sits close to the wall and nearly disappears from the side, which suits the smaller sizes and any wall where several pieces hang together. The 1.25 inch gallery wrap reads more substantial and is the better match for the 24x36 and 32x48, where a thin edge can make a large canvas look underbuilt.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Yes. Mounting hardware comes attached and leveling bumpers are included, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to assemble.

Can this hang on a porch, in a bathroom or anywhere damp?

No. Canvas is an indoor material. Steam, weather and direct afternoon sun will all shorten its life, so keep it on an interior wall away from a hot south facing window and out of a bathroom that gets steamy.

What room does it suit best?

A living room above the sofa, a dining room, an entry above a console, a bedroom or a cabin. The cool palette sits with grey, greige, stone, white shiplap, pale oak and black iron. It is a harder match for a room already working in warm terracotta or heavy gold.

How should we store it between seasons?

Stand it upright rather than laying it flat with anything stacked on top, and wrap it in a sheet or put it back in its box. Keep it in conditioned space. An unheated attic or a damp basement swings through enough humidity to slacken a stretched canvas over a few seasons.

Christmas Canvas Wall Art - Mountain Red Barn in the Snow

$107.00

About This Painting

The barn sits low and small at the foot of the mountains, which is the whole idea. A still pond runs across the foreground holding the reflection of a pink dawn sky, tall pines stand dark against the haze, and the peaks fade back into blue grey mist. Snow covers the roof, the field and the far bank. The barn is the only warm colour anywhere in the frame.

It was painted rather than photographed, and it reads that way. The snow has visible brushwork, the mountains are softened rather than sharp, and the whole scene sits in the quiet half light you get just after sunrise on a cold morning. That is what separates it from a winter photograph, which tends to give you detail where this gives you mood.

Christmas Without Red And Green

The palette is blue grey, soft white and pale lavender with a single band of barn red. Hang it in November and the snow and the pines carry Christmas on their own. Leave it up in February and it is simply a winter landscape. Plenty of customers never take it down at all.

That restraint is why it survives a decorated room. Against a lit garland, a wreath and a tree, bright art competes for attention. This one sits behind all of it and gives the eye somewhere quiet to land.

Choosing Your Size

Measure the furniture or wall space it will hang above and aim for roughly two thirds of that width. Above a sofa, a mantel or a sideboard that usually lands at 24x36 or 32x48 inches. For an entry, a hallway, a study or a bedside wall, 16x24 or 20x30 inches is the comfortable middle. The 8x12 and 12x18 suit a shelf lean or a stair gallery wall.

This is a wide landscape, so it rewards width. The mountains and the pond need room to read, and below 16x24 the far peaks start to lose their detail. Hang it at eye level, centered 57 to 60 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 10 inches between the top of any furniture and the bottom of the canvas.

Which Depth To Pick

The 0.75 inch profile sits close to the wall and nearly disappears from the side. It suits the smaller sizes and any wall where this hangs alongside other pieces, because a thin edge keeps a gallery wall from looking crowded.

The 1.25 inch gallery wrap reads more substantial and holds its own as a single piece. On the 24x36 and the 32x48 it is the better choice, since a large canvas on a thin stretcher can look underbuilt once it is up on the wall.

Where It Works

Above a sofa, over a mantel, above a console in an entry, in a dining room, a bedroom, a study or a cabin. The cool palette sits naturally with grey, greige, stone, white shiplap, pale oak, linen and black iron. It is a harder match for a room already working in warm terracotta, heavy gold or deep red.

It also suits a lodge, a rental cabin, a lake house or a ski place, where a winter landscape belongs on the wall for half the year rather than six weeks.

Honest About What This Is

This is a printed reproduction on canvas, not an original painting. The artwork was digitally designed in a painterly style and then printed to order in the size and depth you choose, which is how it can be offered in six sizes and two profiles rather than as one single piece. The brushwork you see is part of the printed image.

Care And Storage

Canvas is an indoor material. Keep it off a wall in direct afternoon sun and out of a steamy bathroom and the color holds for years. Dust it with a dry microfiber cloth and never put a cleaning spray on the print surface.

If it comes down after the season, stand it upright rather than laying it flat with anything stacked on top, and wrap it in a sheet or return it to its box. Store it in conditioned space, since an unheated attic or a damp basement swings through enough humidity to slacken a stretched canvas over a few years.
