Underneath, a gathered spray of pine, red winter berries and pinecones, and sitting right in the middle of it a red cardinal. The background is a pale weathered plank that has gone soft and chalky, with the faintest wash of blue in the grain.

It is the traditional palette, red and green and white, without the tartan and the glitter. That is what lets it sit in a modern farmhouse entry, a kitchen with natural oak, or a porch with black rockers on it, and look like it belongs rather than like it was dug out of a tote.

What You Put On It

Two fields. Your family surname runs across the bottom in red, and your established year sits on the right, balanced against EST. on the left. Use the year you married, the year you bought the house, or the year the family started counting. It is yours and the sign does not explain it.

Shorter names sit large and open. Longer names are set a little tighter so the whole surname stays on one line and stays readable from across a room. Send the spelling exactly as you want it printed and we follow it to the letter.

The Metal Version Goes Outside

Choose the aluminum and it belongs on a covered porch, a screened room or an exposed entry wall. It is 3mm aluminum composite, rigid and weather ready, and it handles sun, cold, damp and hard freezes. If it is going above the rockers where everyone sees it on the way in, this is the one to take.

Indoors, the stretched canvas suits an entry, a hallway, a mantel or the wall above a sideboard. Canvas is an indoor material, so anywhere weather reaches, take the metal.

About the Cardinal

It is a small detail and it does a lot of work. For plenty of families a cardinal at Christmas means somebody who is not at the table any more, which is why we put it in the center of the greenery rather than off in a corner. If that is not what it means in your house, it is simply a red bird in the pine, and the sign reads perfectly well either way.

What Arrives

✔ Personalized with your family surname and your established year, set into the design before printing

✔ Seven sizes from 16x8 inches up to 48x24 inches, in stretched canvas or aluminum

✔ Stretched canvas comes gallery wrapped with the artwork carried around the edges, so no frame is needed

✔ Aluminum is 3mm aluminum composite, rigid and weather ready, for porches and exposed walls

✔ Mounting hardware included, so it hangs straight out of the packaging

✔ Designed in Michigan, made to order in North America

✔ Free shipping to the USA and Canada

Honest About the Materials

The weathered plank background is printed artwork, not real wood. There are no boards, no grooves and nothing to warp, split or need refinishing. What you get is the look of an old painted sign with none of the upkeep real timber asks for.

Our signs are made of aluminum. There is no embossing, raised lettering, or engraved lettering on our signs. They are graphically printed to look as if they have those effects.

Questions About This Merry Christmas Sign

What exactly do I get to personalize?

Two fields. Your family surname across the bottom and your established year on the right. Tailor Made Rooms sets both into the artwork before anything is printed, so the type is part of the design rather than placed on top of it.

Can this Christmas sign hang outside?

The aluminum version can. It is 3mm aluminum composite built for a covered porch, a screened room or an exposed entry wall, and it handles sun, cold, damp and hard freezes. The stretched canvas is an indoor material only.

What does the cardinal mean?

Whatever it means in your family. Many people read a cardinal at Christmas as someone remembered, and Tailor Made Rooms set it at the center of the greenery for that reason. For everyone else it is a red bird in the pine and the sign works just as well.

Will a long last name still fit?

Yes. Tailor Made Rooms adjusts the letter spacing so the surname stays on a single line and stays legible. A longer name simply sits a little tighter. If you are unsure how yours will look, ask before you order and we will tell you straight.

Is it real wood?

No. The plank background is printed. Tailor Made Rooms prints the weathered look onto canvas or onto 3mm aluminum composite, so you get the character of an old painted sign without the warping and refinishing.

What size should I order?

Measure what it will hang above and aim for roughly two thirds of that width in artwork. Above a sideboard, a console or a mantel that usually lands at 30x15 or 36x18 inches. On a porch wall, go one size up, because it is read from the driveway rather than from three feet away. Cut the size out of painters tape and stick it on the wall first.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Yes.
